Portable Acrylic Mahjong Set, 160 Tiles

A 160 tile American set at a weight that moves between houses, with the full breakdown down to the six blanks kept back as spares.

    • Light enough to be the set that actually travels, rather than the one that stays home.
    • Six blanks, which is what keeps a travelling set playable after the first tile goes missing.
    • Thirteen finishes, so a set is recognisable when several are on the same table.
    • Acrylic takes the knocks of a car boot without marking the way printed tiles do.

    Portable, without shrinking the tiles

There are two ways to make a mahjong set portable, and only one of them is any good. The bad way is to shrink the tile: a 20 mm set fits anywhere and is harder to read for everyone at the table. The good way is to keep the tile full sized and control the weight, which is what this set does.

For a group that meets at a different house each week, the second approach is the one that survives contact with reality. Nobody enjoys a set they cannot read.

The spares matter most on the road

Six blank tiles look like packing material on a spec sheet. On a set that travels they are the difference between a game and a keepsake, because the tile that falls out in a car is not coming back and single tiles cannot be reordered.

The habit that goes with them is counting the tiles back in at the end of an evening. It takes a minute and it is the only reliable defence against a set quietly becoming incomplete.

    The American composition

108 suit tiles across the three suits, 16 winds, 12 dragons, 8 flowers, 10 jokers and 6 blanks. The jokers are what make it American; the National Mah Jongg League card assumes them and a set without them plays a different game.

    Thirteen finishes

More choice than most ranges offer, which is useful mainly for telling sets apart in a group. It also means a set can be matched to a room rather than accepted as it comes.

    Care

Damp cloth, nothing stronger. Store the tiles contained. Keep the set out of a hot car through a summer, which does more damage than a year of play.

    How to play Mahjong ?

     Image

Step 1 — Build the Wall

At the beginning of the game, all Mahjong tiles are shuffled face down on the table. Each player then stacks their tiles into a wall. Once the walls are connected together, every player draws their starting hand of tiles.

    Step 2 — Draw & Discard

Players take turns drawing one tile and discarding another. The goal is to slowly build the perfect combination of sequences, pairs, and matching sets while paying attention to the tiles discarded by opponents.

Step 3 — Complete Your Winning Hand

Win the game by completing a full Mahjong hand before the other players. Strategy, observation, and timing are key — every decision can change the outcome of the game and make each round exciting and unique.

    A Set Worth Collecting

More than just a board game, each Mahjong set is a true collector’s piece. From elegant tiles to unique designs and premium finishes, every detail is made to stand out.

Build your own collection, showcase your favorite sets at home, and enjoy products that combine entertainment with beautiful décor.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the best travel mahjong set?

    keyboard_arrow_down

The one you can still read at the end of an evening. Shrinking tiles to 20 mm makes a set fit anywhere and makes it harder for everyone at the table, so weight is the better thing to control. This one is 160 acrylic tiles at 2.5 kg, which moves between houses without a struggle, and six blanks travel with it as spares. On a set that leaves the house, those spares matter more than any other detail.

    Are acrylic Mahjong tiles good?

    keyboard_arrow_down

Acrylic holds up well to the handling a set actually gets. It takes the knocks of a car boot without marking the way printed faces do, and the engraving stays legible rather than wearing off over a few years of play. It is also light, which is how a full American set of 160 tiles comes in at 2.5 kg. A barely damp cloth is all it needs, and nothing stronger than that.

Is the Costco mahjong set good?

    keyboard_arrow_down

Worth judging a set on its contents rather than on where it came from. Count the breakdown: 108 suit tiles, 16 winds, 12 dragons, 8 flowers and 10 jokers is what American play runs on, with blanks on top as spares. This set lists 160 tiles including 6 blanks. Then look at the material, since acrylic survives handling that printed surfaces do not, and single tiles cannot be reordered when one goes missing.

Is the Hobby Lobby mahjong set good?

    keyboard_arrow_down

The name on the box tells you less than three lines of the specification. First, whether jokers are included, since the annual National Mah Jongg League card assumes them. Second, whether spare blanks come with it, because a set quietly becomes incomplete the first time a tile disappears. Third, the material, which decides how the faces look in five years. This one answers with 10 jokers, 6 blanks and acrylic throughout.
