keyboard_arrow_downAlmost every mahjong set arrives in packaging designed to survive shipping and nothing beyond it. Within a year the box has split, and the set moves into a plastic bag or a drawer. That is the point at which tiles start going missing.
An empty bag is a small purchase that prevents a large loss. It gives the set a home, and a set with a home stays complete.
Printed cotton totes look better and behave worse. Cotton absorbs, so a damp bag stays damp against the tiles, and it stains from the inside where nobody looks.
Polyester wipes, dries quickly and does not hold moisture against a set. For a bag whose whole job is protecting something, that is the right material.
Two designs. In a group where several people own sets and everything travels between houses weekly, a distinctive bag is how a set finds its way home.
Check the bag dimensions against your set. Tile sets vary from under a kilo to over ten, and a tote sized for a mini travel set will not take a full 40 mm Chinese set. The bag is 24 cm on its shorter side according to the supplier title, which suits a compact set rather than a full one.
Wipe clean or hand wash. Dry fully before putting a set back in it.
