keyboard_arrow_downMahjong equipment is almost never broken during a game. It is damaged in the bag between games, and the mechanism is always the same: hard objects rubbing against each other for the length of a car journey.
Acrylic racks scratch tiles. Tiles scratch racks. After two years both look tired, and nothing in particular happened.
A sleeve separates them. It is a small, unglamorous purchase that visibly changes how a set ages.
The second job, and arguably the more useful. Racks travel loose, they get left at whichever house hosted, and a set ends up with three. Replacing a single matching rack is usually impossible.
A sleeve makes four racks one object, and one object is much harder to leave behind.
Most sets arrive with racks in a thin plastic sleeve that splits within a month. Everyone throws it away and nothing replaces it. This is what replaces it.
Check the sleeve length against your racks. Rack lengths vary from 17 to 20 inches, and a sleeve cut for a short rack will not take a long one.
Wipe clean or hand wash. Dry fully before putting racks back inside.
