Tiles stored in separated groups arrive part sorted. It shortens the setup, and on a mixed table it means the person who knows the game is not doing all of it alone while everyone else waits.
The more useful one over years. Loose tiles in a bag grind against each other on every journey, and the result is rounded corners and dulled faces after a few years, without any single incident.
Tiles held in groups do not move against each other. A set stored this way looks materially better after a decade.
Wipes clean, dries fast, does not hold damp against the tiles. Cotton pouches feel better and hold moisture, which is the wrong property for something in permanent contact with a set.
Confirm how many bags are in the set and their size. Organising a 144 tile set sensibly takes several, and a single pouch will not do the job the product is bought for.
Wipe clean or hand wash. Dry fully before tiles go back in.

Store them sorted, dry and not loose. Tiles left to move against each other in a single bag round off at the corners over years of carrying, without any single incident to blame it on. Separating them into groups stops that movement and shortens setup at the same time. Polyester is the sensible material for it, since it wipes clean and does not hold damp against the tiles the way cotton does.
Sort by group rather than at random, following the way a set is counted: 108 suit tiles across dots, bamboo and characters, then 16 winds, 12 dragons and 8 flowers and seasons. Bagging along those lines makes a missing tile obvious at a glance instead of after a full recount. Keep dice and any spares in a separate pouch, since loose hard pieces are what scratch faces in transit.
Racks, sometimes written tile racks, and a rack with a flat extended top edge is called a rack and pusher. They hold a hand of thirteen tiles upright and angled toward the player, and the pusher version doubles as the tool for shoving a built wall forward. Racks are cut to a specific tile height, so check yours first. Bags like these hold the set between games rather than during one.
A simple one is a length of hardwood with a groove cut along the top, wide enough for the tile thickness and deep enough to hold it at an angle, roughly a third of the tile height. Measure your own tiles first, since a groove cut for one set will not take another. Sand the groove smooth so faces are not scratched, and finish with oil rather than a varnish that can stay tacky against the tiles.
