It sounds like nothing and it is the difference between a set that survives a decade and one that quietly stops being playable. Mahjong tiles are lost rather than broken, single tiles cannot be reordered, and a set missing one tile cannot be played properly.
Two spares buy a set two accidents.
Between the 20 mm pocket size and the 26 mm compact size. The extra two millimetres over the smallest sets give the face noticeably more room, which matters because it is where the character has to fit.
For a set that will be both the travel set and the everyday one, this is a sensible size.
