Description
keyboard_arrow_downMost mahjong tiles are melamine. It is dense, it engraves well and it is what the great majority of sets are made from. Acrylic is the other route: harder, glossier, and coloured through its whole thickness rather than surface printed.
That last point is the practical one. A melamine tile that chips shows a pale core under its painted face. An acrylic tile chips green, because it is green all the way down. Over years of shuffling, that is the difference between a set that ages and one that looks damaged.
Ivory tiles are traditional and they have one weakness: on a pale table cloth, at the far end of a four seat table, in evening light, they blur. A saturated colour holds its edge. Emerald against a cream cloth stays legible from the opposite seat, which is the seat that matters.
The faces are cut and hand painted rather than printed, so the markings sit slightly below the surface and survive the handling that wears a printed set flat.
Mahjong happens where there are drinks. Acrylic does not absorb, does not swell and does not lift its paint when a glass goes over. A wooden or bamboo backed tile treated the same way will warp. If your table also holds dinner, this is the material that forgives.
The set arrives with a matching bag in one of five colours. That sounds cosmetic and is mostly practical: a set that has a bag from day one stays together. Sets that arrive loose end up half in a drawer and half in a box, and a mahjong set missing four tiles is not a mahjong set.
A barely damp cloth, no solvents. Acrylic scratches more readily than melamine, so keep the tiles in their bag rather than loose in a drawer with keys and coins. Away from direct sun, which dulls any coloured resin over years.
A player who already has an ivory set and wants a second one that looks like it was chosen rather than inherited. Or a first set for someone who cares how the table looks, which on this market is most people.

Whether you’re hosting a casual game night or learning the game for the first time, our collections bring together strategy, fun, and a premium aesthetic that makes every session feel special.
At the beginning of the game, all Mahjong tiles are shuffled face down on the table. Each player then stacks their tiles into a wall. Once the walls are connected together, every player draws their starting hand of tiles.
Players take turns drawing one tile and discarding another. The goal is to slowly build the perfect combination of sequences, pairs, and matching sets while paying attention to the tiles discarded by opponents.
Win the game by completing a full Mahjong hand before the other players. Strategy, observation, and timing are key — every decision can change the outcome of the game and make each round exciting and unique.
More than just a board game, each Mahjong set is a true collector’s piece. From elegant tiles to unique designs and premium finishes, every detail is made to stand out.
