keyboard_arrow_downThis is the point most owners of automatic machines learn the expensive way. The machine sorts tiles magnetically: a metal core inside each tile lets the mechanism grip it, turn it face down and place it in the rising wall.
A tile without that core is invisible to the machine. It will not be picked up, and it will jam the cycle. So an ordinary mahjong set, however good, cannot be used in an automatic table.
Automatic tables are cut for a specific tile height, and 44 mm is the common standard. A tile a few millimetres too tall will not clear the lift; one too short will not stack squarely and the wall will collapse mid build.
Measure what your machine takes before ordering. The manual states it, and if the manual is gone, measure an existing tile.
Automatic tables wear tiles faster than hand play does, because every tile is handled mechanically twenty times an evening. Faces dull, corners round, and eventually a tile stops seating properly and jams the cycle.
