Note the rack count. Two, not four. That is enough for a two player game or for two players in a four seat game to have racks while the others hold their hands. If you want a rack at every seat, a second set of racks is a separate purchase, and it is better to know that now than on the evening.
Two spare tiles look like nothing and are the reason a set survives its first year. Mahjong tiles are lost rather than broken, and a set missing one tile cannot be played properly. Single tiles cannot be reordered from a Chinese factory, so the spares in the box are the only replacements that will ever exist for this set.
Dice determine the deal: where the wall is broken and who starts. Playing without them means improvising the deal, which works until somebody disputes it. They are trivial to include and routinely left out.
At 20 x 14 x 10 mm these are travel sized. Good for a bag, harder to read across a full table, and a poor choice for someone learning the faces.
Someone buying a first Chinese set who wants to start playing immediately rather than assembling equipment over several orders. The travel tile size makes it a poor choice for a weekly table at home, and a good one for a household that plays occasionally and does not have a dedicated space.
